On Sep. 02, a big earthquake of Magnitude (=Richter scale )7.0 attacked
Western Java, Indonesia. By this earthquake , 5 local community radio
stations were temporarily damaged for broadcasting service.
Although the radio stations recovered since then, radio receivers were
insufficient for distribution to victims.
Also there were false rumors that a larger earthquake is soon to come and
made people in the area worried. Knowing such worrisome situation
, FM Wai-Wai, a community radio station in Kobe (and a member of AMARC)
made funds donation, however, radio receivers were not distributed enough
to all the households suffered from the earthquake.
On Oct. 12, BHN sent 2 staff members to donate radio sets to victims and
started distribution work in Kota Bandung, with the cooperation of Indonesian
NGO “CRI”.
In total, 250 radio sets are going to be donated.
As TV wave is not covering well in this mountain area, the radio broadcasting
is the major source of information.People could get access to information,
enjoy amusement program , apply programs to child education, etc.
This donation work was greatly welcomed by the people in the community.
These mountain area is very cold at night. We wish they could
regain energy for recovery with the help of radio programs.
