Nepal: Start of Relief Project for Aiding Survivors of Earthquake in Central Nepal

In order to investigate the possibility for BHN to aid survivors of the April 25th earthquake in Nepal, three members of the BHN staff were sent to Nepal starting on May 3rd, Sunday.

Based on the report by the investigation team, we planned a rapid response project and obtained the assistance of the nonprofit activity organization Japan Platform.

Specifically, starting on June 8th, BHN will start a project to restore a total of eight community FM radio stations in Sindhupalchowk district, as well as in four other districts, which sustained a lot of damage from the earthquake.

As we reported before, the Asian Pacific office of AMARC (World Association of Community Radio Broad-casters) is planned to be the local partner. We are currently discussing finalizing a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with AMARC’s office.

On June 11th and June 19th, specialists from BHN arrived in Nepal one by one to start the main activities. For this project, we plan to do repairs on the buildings and broadcasting towers of some of the broadcasting offices.

Throughout the four months spent on this project, which will end in mid-October, we will conduct our work while keeping safety in mind above all.
