History

“Recognizing the fundamental importance of communications infrastructure as an essential element in the economic and social development of all countries.”

Based on the above background, BHN Association was established in 1992 as a non-governmental organization specializing in ICT by six leaders of telecommunication industries in Japan to support people in developing countries through Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

BHN Association has continued striving to realize its vision since its first support activity for people afflicted by the catastrophic nuclear accident in 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

 

Sep 1992 Established as a voluntary organization.
Sep 1999 Recognized as a specified nonprofit organization (NPO) by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Oct 2006 Received the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Award for Distinguished Service in International Cooperation.
Feb 2010 Certified as an authorized NPO.

BHN aims to improve the living conditions and solve social issues by utilizing information and communication technology (ICT) to protect the safety and security of people in developing countries and disaster-stricken areas in Japan and overseas. For this reason, we need the kind support and cooperation of many people. BHN offers a wide range of people, of all ages and from all walks of life, the opportunity to contribute their enthusiasm, their strengths, and their accumulated experience in a variety of ways.
