President of BHN Association

Happy New Year

On behalf of all of us at the BHN Association, I sincerely hope that this year will be a good one for you all.

BHN was established in September 1992 based on the belief that “telecommunication is also one of the Basic Human Needs (BHN: the essentials needed for daily life, such as clothing, food, and shelter)” In September last year, we celebrated our 30th anniversary.

Our first support activity was related to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident in Ukraine, and since then, BHN has been steadily growing its number of support activities. Over 30 years of activities through FY2022, BHN has supported more than 300,000 beneficiaries and 1,135 trainees from 28 countries in ICT-related training programs and donated 6,641 tablets for educational and medical purposes in 8 countries.

We are proud to say that through these activities, we have been able to contribute to the lives of those in need. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to NTT Group, other companies and organizations, and individual members for their support and cooperation in making these activities possible.

As we enter the New Year, taking a fresh look at the state of the world, we can see that the number of people in need of assistance, both domestically and internationally, is, unfortunately, continuing to increase due to the intensification of natural disasters brought about by extreme weather caused by global warming, the spread of war in Ukraine and elsewhere as the so-called new Cold War begins, and the continuing corona pandemic, which shows no signs of abating.

In the midst of this situation, BHN is determined to continue and improve/expand its support activities with a renewed spirit in the new year, based on the experience and knowledge we have accumulated over the 30 years of support activities since our establishment. We would like to ask you again for your cooperation this year.

Supports you can do

BHN aims to improve the living conditions and solve social issues by utilizing information and communication technology (ICT) to protect the safety and security of people in developing countries and disaster-stricken areas in Japan and overseas. For this reason, we need the kind support and cooperation of many people. BHN offers a wide range of people, of all ages and from all walks of life, the opportunity to contribute their enthusiasm, their strengths, and their accumulated experience in a variety of ways. BHN invites you to participate in BHN activities in a way that suits you.
